Melanie Brooks Lukacs of Earthenwood Studio specializes in handcrafted porcelain beads, charms, buttons, and jewelry with unique themes based on fairy fantasy, goddess culture, the natural world, and contemporary imagery.
Melanie uses a variety of techniques such as custom press molds and rubber stamps as well as hand forming sculptural beads. She fires her white porcelain clay to cone 6, which is about 2200 degrees F, in a small electric kiln. She uses a variety of colored commercial glazes and relies on the deeply carved surfaces of her beads to show the detail under the glazes
Melanie sells her beads both wholesale and retail at bead shows and through her website. She also writes jewelry making projects regularly for bead magazines such as Stringing and Simply Beads.
Melanie is a founding member of Beads of Clay and maintains this website as well as moderates on the group’s Yahoo discussion forum.
