Artist- Marla James  ::  Studio- Marla's Mud and Fired Clay Artists

I started working with real clay when I was 5 or 6 years old. My parents built a new house in the country on a beautiful clay hill! Well, I thought it was beautiful, anyway!! <grin> Everywhere they dug was pure clay. What fun I had! Clay animals, clay cakes, clay people!!!! Then they ruined everything and decided we needed grass in the yard!!! So I had to wait many more years before I was reintroduced to clay, in High school. And then, we, (clay and I) became inseparable! My favorite hobby was throwing pots on the wheel. Every relative I can think of has received some sort of "clay" from me through the years. And now, 40 years since my first clay project, I am enjoying making smaller things. Like beads and pendants. I use a variety of clay bodies such as, Stoneware, Terra Cotta and Porcelain.

Another passion of mine is finding ways of getting my fellow Fired Clay Artists, out into the public eye. My current project is www.FiredClayArtists.com where a plethora of Ceramic Artists are all under one roof. All of these Artists create handmade pieces from clay. A lot of them make intricate carvings into the beads or pendants they create. This website is new and growing with leaps and bounds! So check it often to see what's new!
